Jessica Prentice is not currently teaching classes, due to her full-time involvement at Three Stone Hearth (threestonehearth.com). She may begin to teach classes again at TSH in the future. Please see below for a list of her past classes.

If you are interested in participating in an apprenticeship at Three Stone Hearth, which includes regular instruction from Jessica and the other worker-owners of TSH, please contact Jessica.

Thank you!

Class Details

Workshops are kept small to allow for maximum participation and interaction.

A light meal will be included in each class, allowing students to taste some of the things we are making.

Classes take place in the East Bay, near the El Cerrito Plaza BART Station.

Work-trade discounts are available to one person per class to help with cleanup during and after the class.

Please review the Wise Food Ways Cancellation Policy before registering.

Introduction

In her classes, Jessica offers:

  • inspiration: cooking can and should be a pleasurable and rewarding task! Jessica's classes are designed to inspire you to have fun in the kitchen while nourishing yourself and your family.
  • empowerment: we often feel intimidated about cooking, afraid that we don't have what it takes to do it well. Jessica focuses on empowering students to trust their own senses as they cook to create delicious meals.
  • skills: instead of transmitting recipes, Jessica teaches the skills and techniques that underlie the recipes, so that you understand how different ingredients and methods affect flavor and nutrition in a dish
  • creativity: by understanding the skills involved in cooking, and feeling empowered and inspired to cook, the kitchen becomes a place where you can express your creativity while honoring traditions
  • integration: in all of Jessica's work, she integrates the importance of community (hearth), ecology (earth) and nutrition (health), and all of the approaches she teaches incorporate her beliefs about these three crucial areas.

Jessica is available to teach small groups in private homes or for farm groups. Classes she can offer include:

  • The Simmering Cauldron: Old-fashioned Meat-based Soups, Stocks & Stews
  • The Sacred Grain: Old-fashioned Sourdough Breads and Biscuits, Wholegrain pilafs, porridges & pancakes
  • The Bubbling Crock: Preserving the Harvest with Lacto-fermentation
  • The Alewife: an Introduction to Making Herbal Ales, Beers and Sodas
  • Fast and Fresh: Quick and Easy Meals from the Farmers Market and CSA Box

Please contact her if you are interested in organizing a class.
